What is smart farming?

Smart farming is making use of technology to protect the environment and make the operations more cost effective. In the case of blueberry farming, we are very water conscious. Our blueberry bushes rely on drip irrigation. This means that they are not watered with hoses but instead have four spikes at each bush connected to a central pipe. Water can therefore be directed straight into their roots on a drip-feed basis. The bushes are protected from hail and frost through the use of netting tunnels. Our blueberry bushes are a varietal known as OzBlu, which have been developed to be a hardy, resilient strain that produces bigger berries that are sweeter. This makes them last longer and retain their shape.
